More affordable housing for Cornwall..........Nigel Pearce Bude blog

I have always thought it was wrong that young people all over the country can usually chose to live and work where they were brought up but if you live in Cornwall unless you are very lucky if you want a good job and somewhere to live you have to move away from Cornwall. You can have you say in the future of Cornwall because during February March and April 2011 Cornwall council are consulting the people of Cornwall and asking them about the future and where development needs to be distributed throughout the county. It is called the Core Strategy Options Consultation and sounds very boring but it is about how many social houses we build for local people. The core strategy is also about where we have employment land and if we build it in the main Cornwall towns or if we build throughout Cornwall in the smaller towns and villages where the majority of people live. Look out for details in the local press or call at your one stop shop or phone the CC planning dept on 0300 1234151 and say you want to have your say on the Local Development Framework. I think employment should be where people live and they should not have to travel miles to go to work. I would like to see a much higher percentage of social houses built by developers. In the past it was about 25% and in the future it needs to be much higher we need 60 70 and 80% proportion of social housing built by developers if we are to stop the mass exodus of young people from Cornwall. If you are watching this after the end ...

A brilliant camping trip to Polzeath in Cornwall was topped off with 2 hours of Coasteering. All that jumping into the water made us feel like the Goonies, so the resulting edit was to be expected really.
